Siamese (Thailand) capitol city destroyed by Burmese in 1767. Temples, palaces and libraries were sacked and burned along with Buddha images and stupas (reliquaries) to recover gold leaf and determine if other treasures were hidden inside. Area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Photos, taken in January 2010, are sepia toned.
